COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

Committees and Committee Chairs are selected primarily in November for the following calendar year. Open positions of course may be filled at any time. Follow these links for applications:

Board Position

Committee Chair

If you would like to serve on one of these committees we would LOVE to have you. Please contact the oa email at oaseaz@gmail.com if you have questions or want more information. Although a committee may not currently have a chair- there is still work to be done and help needed to keep the fellowship going. If you would like to Chair a committee, see qualifications at the bottom of this page under Committee Chair Qualifications.

Intergroup Trainer

(Jan F and Barbara M):  Facilitate Intergroup Rep effectiveness by creating and using tools to help IRs share within their groups and at Intergroup; maintain a sample “IR notebook” with extra copies of materials for new IRs; maintain and distribute the SEAZ OA “We Care” list and the IG name and address list; oversee the updates of the OA website Southern AZ meeting information; mail out meeting materials to absent IRs; and attend monthly Intergroup meetings. Encouraged to attend monthly Board meetings.

Special Events (Open)

Plan and execute special events by: soliciting members to work on the committee; arranging for event location; planning event program; budgeting the event, soliciting seed money from the IG treasurer; receiving registration forms and monies; arranging for a speaker (phone calls, transportation, meals); purchasing needed supplies; advertising the event; making flyers; reporting the event in writing to Intergroup; submit a budget once a year to the Budget Committee; monitor activities/expenses to stay within the budget provided and identify solutions to meet any anticipated budget shortfall and present them to IG for approval; attend monthly Intergroup meetings and provide a monthly written report. Encouraged to attend monthly Board meetings and write a newsletter article describing committee responsibilities and activities/achievements. 

Newsletter

(Peggy P): Solicit members to work on the committee; solicit and acknowledge receipt of articles; desktop publish the newsletter (type or word process, send it out electronically, and have it copied and brought to Intergroup); submit a budget once a year to the Budget Committee; monitor activities/expenses to stay within the budget provided and identify solutions to meet any anticipated budget shortfall and present them to IG for approval; attend monthly Intergroup meetings and provide a monthly written report. Encouraged to attend monthly Board meetings and write a newsletter article describing committee responsibilities and activities/achievements. 

Meeting List

(Susan C): Prepare and keep current meeting list, including updated IG Board contact information; distribute list to newsletter editor and committee chairpersons for their use; submit a budget once a year to the Budget Committee; monitor activities/expenses to stay within the budget provided and identify solutions to meet any anticipated budget shortfall and present them to IG for approval; attend monthly Intergroup meetings and provide a monthly written report. Encouraged to attend monthly Board meetings and write a newsletter article describing committee responsibilities and activities/achievements. 

Telephone

(Judith H): Solicit and schedule members to take/answer messages from voicemail; update voicemail message as needed; work with telephone service provider on budget/service questions as needed; submit a budget once a year to the Budget Committee; monitor activities/expenses to stay within the budget provided and identify solutions to meet any anticipated budget shortfall and present them to IG for approval; attend monthly Intergroup meetings and provide a monthly written report. Encouraged to attend monthly Board meetings and write a newsletter article describing committee responsibilities and activities/achievements. 

Public Information/Professional Outreach (Open)

(Contacts Meg R and Alison T): Solicit committee members; maintain contact with the professional community, media, and community at large, mailing meeting lists and events information where appropriate; respond to requests for OA booths at public information events such as health fairs; initiate and conduct public outreach, via events and media publicity; maintain a Speakers Bureau and schedule speakers; submit a budget once a year to the Budget Committee; monitor activities/expenses to stay within the budget provided and identify solutions to meet any anticipated budget shortfall and present them to IG for approval; attend monthly Intergroup meetings and provide a monthly written report. Encouraged to attend monthly Board meetings and write a newsletter article describing committee responsibilities and activities/achievements. 

Tape Library (Open)

(Custodian Shelly A): Make tapes/CDs available to OA members; maintain the library by keeping a current inventory, making copies of originals, and purchasing new items; receive and account for any usage fees charged; submit a budget once a year to the Budget Committee; monitor activities/expenses to stay within the budget provided and identify solutions to meet any anticipated budget shortfall and present them to IG for approval; attend monthly Intergroup meetings and provide a monthly written report. Encouraged to attend monthly Board meetings and write a newsletter article describing committee responsibilities and activities/achievements. 

Lifeline (Open)

Solicit members to be on the committee; instruct members on how to submit articles to Lifeline; display Lifeline magazine at OA events and offer subscription forms; attend meetings and share about Lifeline; show members the magazine and explain online subscriptions are also available; give samples of old copies to new members; submit a budget once a year to the Budget Committee; monitor activities/expenses to stay within the budget provided and identify solutions to meet any anticipated budget shortfall and present them to IG for approval; attend monthly Intergroup meetings and provide a monthly written report. Encouraged to attend monthly Board meetings and write a newsletter article describing committee responsibilities and activities/achievements. 

Committee Chair Qualifications

A.   Be working the Twelve Steps of OA.
B.   Have a knowledge of the Twelve Traditions of OA.
C.   Have a knowledge of the Twelve Concepts of OA Service.
D.   Currently be abstinent.
E.   Be or have been an IR for a minimum of six months.
